Gratitude

The Artist Knows…

Gratitude for the artist is a love language of serendipity, chance, for fleeting things as much as for permanence. The artist sees light refracted through the water in a vase of flowers and she fills with gratitude for the luck of standing in that spot at that moment, knowing she could not invent such things out of thin air. They must be given. The flowers too, must be given first by nature, before we can give them, paint them, photograph them or remember them. Their death is a gift too. A reminder that the earth is temporal, and so are we. How full we feel within the container of this one life, how wide our buds open, is up to us. And it starts with gratitude.
